screenlocked

Screenlocked is the state of a device or application in which the main interface is inaccessible until proper authentication. It is commonly implemented on mobile devices, laptops, and public terminals to protect data and privacy when the device is unattended or in shared spaces.

A screen lock is typically triggered by inactivity, a manual command, or a security policy. When engaged, the device displays a lock screen that requires a credential such as a PIN, password, pattern, or biometric verification to resume use. Some systems support additional methods like smart cards or hardware tokens.

In enterprise and public environments, screen lock behavior can be configured by policy: minimum password length, maximum failed attempts, auto-lock delay, and biometrics requirements. Kiosk or digital-signage devices may implement stricter restrictions or restricted user sessions.

Screen lock is one layer of security but not a guarantee of privacy. Data could be exposed through lock-screen notifications on some platforms, and the lock screen may be bypassed by sophisticated attackers or if the device is compromised. Regular updates, strong credentials, and encryption complement screen locking.
