Saarlojen are a breed of dog developed in the Netherlands. They are a cross between a German Shepherd and a Wolfdog. The breed was created by Dutch veterinarian Leendert Saarloos in the 1920s, with the goal of producing a dog that possessed the loyalty and trainability of the German Shepherd but also the independence and keen senses of a wolf.
