sRGBtila

sRGBtila is a hypothetical color space and transfer function proposed as an extension of the standard sRGB. It aims to preserve the broad compatibility and simplicity of sRGB while offering a wider gamut and a perceptually uniform encoding suitable for modern displays and image pipelines. It is not an official standard but has appeared in color-science discussions and experimental workflows as a potential bridge between traditional sRGB workflows and higher-end color requirements.

Technical characteristics of sRGBtila include a D65 white point and a primaries set that slightly extends the sRGB gamut toward the green and blue corners. The accompanying transfer function blends the conventional sRGB gamma curve with perceptual refinements to improve midtone detail in scenes with wide luminance ranges. The design intent is that sRGBtila should map to standard displays when tone-mapped to conventional sRGB, preserving consistency of neutral grays and basic color ramps.

In practice, sRGBtila is described for use in color-managed pipelines via ICC profiles or as a transform within software that supports custom color spaces. It is conceived to be forward compatible with existing sRGB workflows for basic encoding, while enabling higher-gamut work when appropriate tools and displays are available. However, because it is not standardized, support is limited and interoperability depends on consistent implementation across hardware and software.
