Rec

Rec (stylized as REC) is a Spanish found-footage horror film released in 2007 and directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza. It is the first installment in the Rec film series and centers on a television crew following firefighters who become trapped inside a quarantined apartment building after a mysterious outbreak.

The film's use of handheld cameras and first-person viewpoint creates claustrophobic tension, and its premise of a rapidly spreading contagion became a defining example of the late-2000s found-footage subgenre. It received positive reviews for atmosphere, pacing, and performances and performed well at the box office, helping to popularize Spanish horror internationally.

Two sequels followed: Rec 2 (2009) continues the story directly, while Rec 3: Genesis (2012) is a prequel that departs from the single-location format, and Rec 4: Apocalypse (2014) returns to the original setup to conclude the main arc. The series is produced by Filmax and has inspired additional media, including an English-language remake, Quarantine (2008).
