ruokaketjuissa
Ruokaketju is a term used in ecological science to refer to the series of interactions by which organisms obtain energy and nutrients from one another in an ecosystem. Each link in a ruokaketju consists of a predator and its prey, and the terms “trophic level” are commonly used to identify the position of a species within this chain. Primary producers such as plants and algae occupy the first trophic level, feeding directly on sunlight or inorganic nutrients. Primary consumers, usually herbivores, feed on the producers, followed by secondary consumers that prey on primary consumers, and so on. Apex predators sit at the top of the chain and have no natural predators. In many natural systems, food chains are interwoven with food webs because species often occupy multiple trophic positions and have varied diets.
The flow of energy through a ruokaketju follows the law of diminishing returns; typically only about 10 %
