Risodling, or rice cultivation, is the agricultural practice of growing rice (Oryza sativa and Oryza glaberrima) for food. It is widely practiced in warm, humid regions and is often carried out in flooded fields called paddies. Flooding suppresses many weeds and creates favorable conditions for the rice plant's growth, though some systems use drained or aerobic soils. Rice can be established by transplanting pre-grown seedlings into the field or by direct seeding.
