Rijtaken is a Dutch term that denotes the set of tasks and responsibilities associated with operating a motor vehicle, typically within professional driving, logistics, or fleet management. The word combines rij (drive, ride) and taken (tasks or duties). In everyday use it can refer to the duties a driver must perform during a shift, such as route planning, navigation, checking the vehicle (tire pressure, fluids, lights), ensuring safety and compliance with traffic laws, maintaining logbooks or digital records, communicating with dispatch, and handling loading or unloading of goods. In logistics and transport, rijtaken may be defined in contracts or work orders and used to allocate responsibilities and assess performance, including metrics like on-time delivery, fuel efficiency, and safety incidents.

With the advent of advanced driver-assistance systems and automated driving, rijtaken can also describe the tasks assigned to automated systems as well as the requirements for human supervisors, such as monitoring system status, readiness to take control, handover procedures, and data logging for compliance.
