Reseptorers are proteins or protein complexes that detect signals and trigger cellular responses. They are selective for specific ligands and translate external or internal cues into intracellular processes. Reseptorers may reside on the cell surface or within cells, including the cytoplasm or nucleus.

Cell-surface reseptorers respond to neurotransmitters, hormones, or sensory stimuli. Major classes include G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), ligand-gated ion channels, and receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs). Intracellular reseptorers, such as nuclear receptors for steroid hormones, respond to lipophilic ligands that diffuse across membranes. Upon ligand binding, reseptorers undergo conformational changes that propagate signals through second messengers (such as cAMP and IP3/DAG), kinases, and transcription factors, ultimately modulating gene expression, metabolism, or cell behavior. Examples include beta-adrenergic GPCRs, nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, insulin receptors, and estrogen receptors.

Regulation of reseptorers affects cellular sensitivity. Desensitization and downregulation can occur with prolonged stimulation, reducing responsiveness. Receptors may be modulated allosterically and by post-translational modifications, altering ligand affinity or signaling efficacy. Receptor signaling networks often integrate inputs from multiple receptors to produce coordinated responses.

Clinical and research relevance is high. Many drugs act as reseptorer agonists or antagonists, and receptor dysfunction is implicated in cardiovascular disease, diabetes, neurodegenerative disorders, and immune conditions. Advances in structural biology, binding assays, and genetic models continue to inform drug discovery and our understanding of signaling physiology.
