Rafmagnsleiðararnir, commonly translated as electrical conductors, are materials that allow electric charge to flow easily through them. This property is due to the presence of free electrons or ions within the material's structure. In metals, for instance, valence electrons are delocalized and can move freely throughout the metallic lattice, forming what is known as an electron sea. When an electric potential difference, or voltage, is applied across a conductor, these free charges are driven in a particular direction, creating an electric current.

Similarly, plasmas, ionized gases, are excellent conductors. The understanding and application of electrical conductors are fundamental to the design and operation of virtually all electrical devices and systems, from simple circuits to complex power grids. The choice of conductor material depends on factors such as conductivity requirements, cost, mechanical properties, and environmental conditions.
