protanope
Protanope is a person with protanopia, a congenital color vision deficiency classified as a red-green color blindness. In protanopia, the long-wavelength (L) cone photoreceptors are absent or nonfunctional, which markedly reduces sensitivity to red light. As a result, red hues may appear dark or indistinguishable from browns or blacks, and color discrimination shifts toward the blue-yellow range. Reds and greens can be difficult to differentiate under many lighting conditions.
Inheritance and prevalence: Protanope is typically inherited as an X-linked recessive trait, so it affects males
Diagnosis: Diagnosis relies on standardized color vision testing. Ishihara plates commonly reveal red-green deficiencies; more precise
Impact and management: Protanope is present from birth and does not worsen with age. People with protanopia
