prodifferentiated
Prodifferentiated is an adjective used in biology to describe cells, tissues, or developmental states that are on the path toward differentiation but have not yet reached a fully differentiated, mature state. The term is not universally standardized and its exact meaning can vary between studies. In some uses, prodifferentiated refers to cells that already express early lineage-specific transcription factors or marker genes and show partial morphological or functional changes consistent with a particular differentiation path, while still retaining proliferative capacity or plasticity.
In developmental and stem cell biology, prodifferentiation is often described as a poised or primed state,
Prodifferentiated states can have implications for tissue development, regenerative medicine, and cancer. In vitro, prodifferentiated populations
Because prodifferentiation is not a universally defined stage, researchers typically specify the criteria used to label
