Challenges include limited funding, climate change, and the accelerating pace of technological change; managing authenticity and provenance; access inequalities and policy gaps; and coordinating across jurisdictions. The preservation of heritage and information supports education, cultural identity, biodiversity, and informed decision-making, making it a foundational activity in museums, libraries, archives, conservation science, and environmental management.
