polüestered

Polüestered are a family of synthetic polymers used to produce fibers and films, with the term most often referring to polyester fibers derived from polyethylene terephthalate (PET). In textile contexts, polüestered describe fabrics made from PET and related polyesters, which are among the most widely used synthetic fibers worldwide.

Production and properties: Polyester fibers are formed by polymerizing terephthalic acid (or dimethyl terephthalate) with ethylene glycol to make PET, which is melted and extruded through spinnerets to form filaments or staple fibers. They are valued for high strength, good elasticity, dimensional stability, and wrinkle resistance. They dry quickly and resist many forms of wear, but they can feel stiff without finishing and may generate static. They also have low moisture regain compared with natural fibers.

Applications: Polüestered are used in clothing (shirts, activewear, linings, and blends), home textiles (sheets, curtains, upholstery), and industrial products; PET is also a major material for beverage bottles and film.

Care and environment: Polyester fabrics are generally machine washable and resistant to many chemicals, but heat and flame can damage them. They are not biodegradable; recycling methods include mechanical re-spinning into new fibers and chemical recycling to monomers for repolymerization. Environmental concerns include energy use, microplastic shedding during washing, and the persistence of synthetic fibers in the environment.
