It is manufactured through an extrusion process that melts and blends these components together. This results in a durable and weather-resistant material that can mimic the appearance of natural wood.

The primary components of plastträ are typically high-density polyethylene (HDPE) or polyvinyl chloride (PVC) mixed with wood flour, sawdust, or wood chips. The exact ratio of plastic to wood can vary depending on the manufacturer and the desired properties of the final product. Additives such as UV stabilizers, colorants, and anti-fungal agents are often incorporated to enhance its longevity and aesthetic appeal.

Plastträ offers several advantages over traditional wood. It is resistant to rot, insect infestation, and warping, making it suitable for outdoor applications like decking, fencing, and outdoor furniture. It requires less maintenance than wood, as it doesn't need regular sealing or staining. Furthermore, its use of recycled materials contributes to environmental sustainability.

However, plastträ also has some drawbacks. It can be more expensive than some types of conventional wood. Its appearance, while similar to wood, may not be indistinguishable to everyone, and it can fade over time, though usually at a slower rate than painted wood.
