Apprentices study botany, plant signaling, and environmental cycles, often under mentors in guilds or forest-focused schools. Practice occurs with controlled specimens before attempting real-world effects. Environmental conditions and the specific plant species influence both efficacy and risk, with fatigue or resource limitations reducing longer-term use.

In games and novels they are used to explore themes of balance between civilization and the natural world.
