Phosphyre is a fictional mineral frequently encountered in science fiction and fantasy world-building. It does not correspond to any mineral recognized by real-world geology. The name phosphyre is a constructed blend of roots meaning light and fire, chosen to evoke radiant luminescence.

In fictional accounts, phosphyre forms in hydrothermal systems within high-grade metamorphic rocks, often in ancient, tectonically active regions. Deposits are imagined as coarse to fine-grained crystals embedded in veining or as nodular masses mingled with quartz, calcite, or sulfides. No real samples exist.

Physical properties described for phosphyre vary by author, but typical depictions describe color from colorless through pale blue or green, with a vitreous or resinous luster. The mineral is usually translucent to transparent, with a molecular structure described as silicate- or phosphate-based. Reported hardness ranges from 6 to 7 on Mohs scale, and density around 3.1–3.4 g/cm3.

A defining feature is photoluminescence: after exposure to light, phosphyre glows in darkness, often pale blue or emerald green. The afterglow can persist for minutes to hours in lore, and luminescence is attributed to trace rare-earth impurities or lattice defects rather than a single standard composition.

Applications in fiction include luminous jewelry, signaling stones for travelers, and energy or enchantment devices in speculative technologies. In many settings phosphyre is prized as a both aesthetic stone and a potential power source, though none of these uses has any basis in real science.
