paramos
Paramos is a conjugated form of the verb parar, which in Spanish means to stop or to halt. It is used as the first-person plural (we) in several tenses, most notably the present indicative and the simple past (preterite) in standard Spanish. Because parar is a regular -ar verb, its nosotros form in both present and preterite is pararmos, though in common spelling the word appears as parar‑mos spelled identically in context. The exact tense is usually determined by surrounding words and punctuation.
In the present tense, usamosparamos or, more commonly, paramos to say “we stop” or “we are stopping.”
Parar has cognates and closely related forms in other Romance languages. In Portuguese, a similar verb exists
- Present: Nosotros paramos el coche frente al semáforo. (We stop the car at the traffic light.)
- Preterite: Ayer paramos en una tienda durante el viaje. (We stopped at a store yesterday.)
