It should not be confused with paratext or with broad document-level edits.

Techniques commonly include adding precise definitions for key terms, supplying concrete examples or analogies, providing brief clarifications, and offering cross-references to related passages. Authors may adjust sentence rhythm, insert signposting phrases, and balance density with readability.

Applications include classroom writing instruction, technical documentation, and localization, where paraenrichment supports readers with varying backgrounds by making implicit assumptions explicit.
