panSikh

Pan-Sikh is a term used to describe a broad set of ideas, networks, and affinities aimed at promoting solidarity among people who identify as Sikh across geographic and political boundaries. It denotes a cultural-religious connectedness rather than a single political organization.

Historically, the concept reflects how Sikh identity links communities in Punjab with the global diaspora. Diasporic networks have organized around shared religious practices, festivals, and the administration of gurdwaras, while engaging in relief work, education, and cultural preservation.

In contemporary usage, pan-Sikh activities encompass charitable services such as langar and disaster relief, as well as advocacy on issues affecting Sikhs at national and international levels. The term covers diverse actors, from civil society groups to political organizations, with differing agendas. Discussions about pan-Sikhism often note that perspectives range from broad, inclusive identities to localized or political aims, including debates over regional autonomy or separatist movements such as Khalistan. Because there is no central authority, the scope and priorities of pan-Sikh solidarity vary by region and community.
