Ovuláció, also known as ovulation, is a critical phase in the menstrual cycle of females, typically occurring around the middle of the cycle. Ovulation is triggered by a surge in luteinizing hormone (LH) from the pituitary gland. This surge causes the dominant follicle in the ovary to rupture, releasing the egg. The egg is then swept into the fallopian tube by the movement of cilia, tiny hair-like structures lining the tube.

The timing of ovulation can vary from woman to woman and is influenced by factors such as age, overall health, and hormonal levels. On average, ovulation occurs about 14 days before the next menstrual period, but this can range from 11 to 16 days.

Ovulation is often accompanied by changes in cervical mucus, which becomes thinner and more slippery to facilitate sperm movement. It is also marked by a slight rise in basal body temperature, which can be used to predict ovulation.
