Overempathizing refers to a pattern in which an individual experiences empathic concern or vicarious distress in response to others' emotions to an extent that is disproportionate, persistent, or unmanageable. It involves not only understanding another's feelings but also absorbing them to the point of emotional overwhelm, often at the expense of the observer's own well-being or objectivity. Healthy empathy aims for accurate understanding and supportive action without eroding personal boundaries.
