Orchestrate is a verb meaning to arrange, coordinate, or manage a complex set of elements to achieve a desired result. The term originates from musical practice: to orchestrate a piece is to arrange its parts for an orchestra, assigning melodies and harmonies to different instruments. The noun form is orchestration.

In music, orchestrating involves translating a composition into an arrangement for an orchestra, taking into account timbre, range, balance, and texture. An arranger or composer may orchestrate a work by writing parts for strings, woodwinds, brass, and percussion.

In computing and information technology, orchestration refers to the automated coordination and management of tasks, processes, and services across multiple systems. It enables workflows, deployment, and resource management. Examples include container orchestration with Kubernetes, which schedules and scales containers; workflow orchestration with Apache Airflow; and cloud orchestration platforms that coordinate resources across providers.

Orchestration is often contrasted with choreography, where interactions among components are decentralized and driven by events rather than by a central controller.
