Ohjausväline is a Finnish term referring to any instrument, device, or system that provides guidance, control, or steering of a process, machine, or operation. In engineering, automation, and instrumentation, ohjausvälineet convert intended commands into actions, monitor the outcomes, and adjust the system to meet desired targets. They encompass both manual controls, such as levers and dials, and automatic devices, including controllers, actuators, valves, and sensors.

In a control loop, a sensor measures a process variable and feeds the information to a controller, which compares the measurement with a reference value and issues commands to actuators to correct deviations. This feedback mechanism is central to the function of many ohjausvälineet, enabling stable and accurate operation across various conditions.

Types of ohjausvälineet can be mechanical, electrical/electronic, hydraulic or pneumatic, and software-based. Common examples include thermostats and temperature controllers, PID controllers in industrial processes, servo motors and actuators, control valves, and supervisory computer systems that coordinate complex sequences.
