Nylon 610, or polyamide 610 (PA 610), is a semi-crystalline aliphatic polyamide produced by the condensation of hexamethylene diamine (HMD) and sebacic acid (SAC). The repeating unit combines the hexamethylene segment from the diamine and the sebacate segment from the diacid, giving properties characteristic of long-chain nylons.

Nylon 610 is known for relatively low moisture uptake compared with shorter-chain nylons, which aids dimensional stability in humid or wet environments. It offers good chemical resistance to many oils and fuels, moderate heat resistance, and solid wear characteristics. Mechanical properties are typical of semi-crystalline nylons and can be enhanced by reinforcing the material with glass fibers or other fillers.

Production and processing involve step-growth polycondensation of the diamine and diacid, often conducted in melt or solution, with the removal of water or condensate. Because it is a thermoplastic, PA 610 can be processed by standard methods such as injection molding, extrusion, and film or fiber formation. In reinforced forms, the material exhibits higher modulus and strength, though impact toughness and processability may be reduced.

Applications for PA 610 are broad within engineering plastics. It is used for automotive components such as gears, housings, and fittings, as well as various machinery parts, electrical connectors, and plumbing or tubing applications where a balance of toughness, chemical resistance, and dimensional stability is desired. It is also employed in some textile and fiber applications.

Like other nylons, PA 610 is hygroscopic, so moisture content can influence mechanical properties and dimensional stability. Proper drying and moisture management are important during processing and use.
