Non-IT is a term used in organizational and corporate contexts to denote activities, departments, or cost centers that are not primarily focused on information technology. It contrasts with IT, which includes the development, operation, and support of computer systems and networks. Non-IT encompasses a broad set of business functions such as finance and accounting, human resources, operations and supply chain, marketing and sales, legal and compliance, facilities management, procurement, customer service, and research and development. While these areas may rely on information technology—through ERP systems, CRM platforms, and analytics tools—they are oriented toward business processes and outcomes rather than technical implementation.

In budgeting and governance, organizations may separate IT and non-IT spend to monitor costs and allocate resources. In project management, non-IT projects are those whose primary objective is business process improvement, organizational change, or market effort rather than software or hardware development. The term is also used in outsourcing and vendor management to distinguish between IT services and non-IT services.

Trends and critique: The distinction has diminished as technology enables all functions; terms such as business technology, digital transformation, or enterprise technology are used instead. Critics argue that "non-IT" implies a false dichotomy and underestimates the IT needs of non-IT domains.
