In biology, neuronlike can refer to cells that display some neuronal characteristics without being fully mature neurons. This includes neural progenitor cells or neurons derived from stem cells that show excitability, action potentials, and synaptic activity in culture. It can also describe endogenous cells that adopt neuron-like morphologies or signaling patterns during development, regeneration, or disease models. The label is often used to indicate a model system that approximates neuronal behavior for study or experimentation.
