Navigationsinfrastrukturen refers to the network of facilities, technologies, and procedures that provide positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) information to users across transport, industry, and critical infrastructure. It encompasses space-based signals, ground-based monitoring and augmentation, and the user equipment that receives and interprets data. The goal is to deliver accurate, timely, and reliable PNT services for a wide range of applications.

The space segment consists of navigation satellites and their constellations, such as those in global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) like GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, and BeiDou. The ground segment includes control centers, reference networks, and satellite health monitoring that maintain system integrity and coordinate corrections. Augmentation systems, including regional and space-based enhancements, improve accuracy, availability, and integrity (for example SBAS like EGNOS and WAAS).

The user segment comprises receivers and devices that convert satellite signals into precise position, velocity, and time information. Supporting infrastructure includes digital maps, real-time traffic data, road sensors, and other data sources. In maritime, aviation, and rail, specialized navigation services integrate with air traffic management, vessel tracking, and rail signaling. Vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communications further extend navigation-related safety and efficiency.

Applications span transportation safety, logistics, financial and telecom synchronization, emergency services, and disaster response. Challenges include vulnerability to interference, jamming, spoofing, and cyber threats, as well as the need for regulatory oversight, data privacy, and ongoing map maintenance. Ongoing trends emphasize multi-GNSS interoperability, advanced augmentation, and resilient, cybersecurity-aware infrastructures.
