NASAF, or the National Agency for the Safety of Air Navigation (in French: *Agence Nationale de la Sécurité de l'Aviation Civile*), is the civil aviation safety authority of France. Established in 2007, it succeeded the former *Direction Générale de l'Aviation Civile* (DGAC) to consolidate France’s oversight of air navigation, airport operations, and aviation safety. The agency operates under the supervision of the French Ministry of Transport and is responsible for ensuring the safety, regularity, and efficiency of air traffic in French airspace.

NASAF’s primary functions include certifying aircraft and aviation personnel, regulating air traffic control, and enforcing aviation safety standards in compliance with European Union (EU) and international regulations, such as those set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). It collaborates closely with Eurocontrol, the EU’s air traffic management agency, to maintain seamless air traffic flow across Europe. Additionally, NASAF conducts inspections, investigates aviation incidents, and promotes continuous safety improvements within the industry.

The agency’s headquarters are located in Paris, with regional offices across France to oversee domestic and international operations. NASAF also plays a key role in training aviation professionals and developing best practices to prevent accidents. Its work is critical to maintaining France’s position as a leader in aviation safety and infrastructure. While often associated with air navigation, NASAF’s mandate extends to broader aviation security, including cybersecurity threats and environmental sustainability in air traffic management.
