The term "næsegælle" is a Danish word that refers to the small bony or cartilaginous prominence found at the nasal root, just above the nose bridge and below the glabella. In anatomical terms it is part of the nasal dorsum and can be composed of a combination of the frontal process of the ethmoid bone, the nasal bone, and a layer of cartilage.

Across populations the degree of prominence varies widely. A mild bump is common and typically benign, while a more pronounced protrusion may be noticeable in photographs or during face-to-face interaction. The feature is independent of gender, age, and ethnicity, although genetic factors such as craniofacial structure influence its size.
