The devices are designed to accept disposable pipette tips with standard compatibility and are often used for tasks like reagent distribution, sample aliquoting, and serial dilutions.

Operation generally involves attaching tips to the ends of all channels, setting the desired volume, and using the plunger to aspirate and dispense into multiple wells in a single action. Proper technique includes aligning the pipette with target wells, avoiding tip loss, and minimizing tip-to-well contact to reduce cross-contamination. Ergonomic handles and low dwell force are common features to support extended use.

Performance and calibration depend on model, volume range, tip fit, and user technique; typical accuracy ranges from about ±0.5% to ±3%, with precision often within ±1–2%. Regular calibration according to ISO 8655 standards or institutional SOPs is recommended, along with routine tip-life checks and cleaning. Proper storage and tip management help maintain performance and longevity.
