A monitor arm is an adjustable mounting device designed to hold computer displays away from the desk surface, enabling flexible positioning and improved ergonomics. Most arms attach to a desk edge with a clamp or to a desk perforation via a grommet mount, and they support one or more screens through articulated joints.

Designs vary by mechanism and capacity. Gas-spring arms use compressed gas to lift and hold the monitor, while mechanical or counterbalance arms rely on springs or weights. Dual- or multi-arm configurations allow two or more monitors to be mounted on a single base or shared pole. Common mounting options include clamp-on, grommet, and wall-mount variants. Arm architecture typically includes tilt, swivel, and rotation to switch between landscape and portrait orientations, as well as height adjustment.

Most monitor arms conform to VESA mounting standards, typically 75x75 mm or 100x100 mm. They support a wide range of monitor sizes, with weight capacities often listed per arm, commonly from roughly 2 to 9+ kilograms (about 4.5 to 20 pounds) per display. Reach and clearance vary, with some arms extending several inches from the desk and folding when not in use.

Benefits include improved ergonomics, easier access to ports and cables, and greater desktop space. They are used in office workstations, graphic design and video production setups, programming stations, and gaming rigs.
