Metszfogak are the front teeth of the upper and lower jaws, specialized for cutting and nibbling food. In humans and many mammals they occupy the anterior region of each dental arc, just behind the lips. In the permanent dentition, each arch contains four metsze fogak: two central incisors and two lateral incisors, for a total of eight incisors. In primary dentition there are also four incisors per arch, totaling eight deciduous incisors.
