marmorlager
Marmorlager is a geological term used to describe a body or bed of marble within metamorphosed carbonate rock. The word, of German origin, literally means "marble deposit" or "marble layer." Marble forms when limestone or dolostone is subjected to metamorphism at elevated temperatures and pressures, typically during regional or contact metamorphism associated with mountain building. The resulting rock is a crystalline carbonate with interlocking calcite (and often dolomite) grains, and it often displays a uniform texture and a range of colors depending on trace impurities.
In landscape and stratigraphic terms, marmorlager denotes a discrete marble body that can occur as a continuous
