A magnetløfter, often translated as magnetic lifter or magnetic lifting device, is a tool used to lift and move ferromagnetic materials, such as iron and steel. These devices utilize strong permanent magnets or electromagnets to create a magnetic field that attracts and holds the object to be lifted.

The principle behind a magnetløfter is magnetic attraction. When the lifting device is brought into close proximity with a suitable object, the magnetic force generated by the lifter overcomes the object's weight and any friction, allowing it to be moved. Permanent magnet lifters use a system of powerful rare-earth magnets, often neodymium, which are permanently magnetized. Electromagnets, on the other hand, generate a magnetic field when an electric current flows through a coil, and this field can be switched on and off.

Magnetløftere are commonly found in industrial settings, such as manufacturing plants, warehouses, and scrap yards. They are used for tasks like loading and unloading heavy steel components, moving scrap metal, positioning parts during welding or assembly, and retrieving dropped items from hard-to-reach places. The advantages of using a magnetløfter include their simplicity of operation, the ability to lift objects without specialized rigging, and the reduced risk of damage to the lifted material compared to mechanical grippers. Safety features are crucial, and most devices include mechanisms to prevent accidental release of the load.
