Loetleb is a traditional wind instrument in the fictional world of Nerinth, commonly associated with coastal communities and seasonal festivals. It is described as a portable, multi-part instrument used to accompany singing and storytelling, and to perform in small ensembles.

Construction: The loetleb consists of a main melody tube, 40–60 cm long, carved from light hardwood such as olive or maple. It has six front finger holes and a thumbhole, plus two drone pipes that run parallel to the main tube. A detachable brass bell shapes the tone. The exterior is often decorated with inlays depicting seafaring symbols.

Playing and repertoire: Players cover holes to produce notes, using breath control and embouchure to adjust pitch and dynamics. The drones sustain a constant harmony, giving the instrument its characteristic shimmer. Repertoire includes sea songs, ritual chants, and narrative pieces.

History and origin: The loetleb’s origins are described in Nerinth folklore, linking it to ancient seafaring guilds and storytellers. Early accounts are fictional within the setting, with a later revival that preserves traditional making methods while allowing modern experimentation.
