Lisäainevalmistustekniikka, often translated as additive manufacturing or 3D printing, refers to a range of processes used to create three-dimensional objects by successively adding material. Unlike subtractive manufacturing, where material is removed from a larger block, additive manufacturing builds objects layer by layer. This approach allows for the creation of complex geometries and customized designs that would be difficult or impossible to produce with traditional methods.

The core principle involves a digital model, typically created using CAD (computer-aided design) software. This model is then sliced into thin horizontal layers. A manufacturing device interprets these layers and deposits or fuses material according to the cross-sectional shape of each layer. Common materials used in additive manufacturing include plastics, metals, ceramics, and composites.

Various technologies fall under the umbrella of lisäainevalmistustekniikka. Fused deposition modeling (FDM) extrudes thermoplastic filament layer by layer. Stereolithography (SLA) uses a UV laser to cure liquid photopolymer resin. Selective laser sintering (SLS) uses a laser to fuse powdered material.
