Lipoomat, also known as lipoma, is a benign tumor composed of adipose tissue. It is one of the most common soft tissue tumors in adults, typically found in middle-aged individuals. Lipoomata can occur anywhere in the body where fat cells are present, but they are most commonly found in the subcutaneous layer of the skin, particularly on the trunk, shoulders, neck, and upper limbs.

The exact cause of lipoomata is unknown, but they are thought to result from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. They are usually painless and slow-growing, often going unnoticed for years. However, some lipoomata can grow large enough to cause discomfort or interfere with nearby structures.

Lipoomata are usually diagnosed through a physical examination and imaging studies such as ultrasound, CT scan, or MRI. A biopsy may be performed to confirm the diagnosis and rule out other types of tumors. Most lipoomata are harmless and do not require treatment. However, if they cause symptoms or are cosmetically undesirable, they can be removed surgically.

There are several variants of lipoomata, including fibrolipoma, angiolipoma, and pleomorphic lipoma. These variants have different histological features and may require different management approaches. Rarely, a lipoma can undergo malignant transformation into a liposarcoma, a type of cancer. Therefore, it is important to monitor any changes in the size or appearance of a lipoma and consult a healthcare professional if necessary.
