There is no definitive diagnostic test for legvatnsástungi, but medical professionals may look for evidence of amniotic fluid components in maternal blood samples or sputum. Management is primarily supportive, focusing on stabilizing the mother's vital signs, providing oxygen, administering fluids, and managing any bleeding complications. Prompt delivery of the fetus is often indicated. The mortality rate for legvatnsástungi is high, and survivors may experience significant neurological deficits.
