laptopvak

Laptopvak is a term used in Danish and Norwegian to describe a dedicated padded compartment or pocket in a bag, case, or piece of luggage that is designed to hold a laptop. In English, this feature is commonly referred to as a laptop compartment or laptop sleeve. The vak is intended to protect the device from scratches and minor impacts during transport.

A typical laptopvak includes padding such as foam or a rigid panel, and a soft lining to prevent scuffs. Closures can be a zipper, Velcro, or elastic bands, and many designs include an adjustable strap or retention strap to secure the laptop within the compartment. Some models incorporate additional features, such as a separate sleeve for power adapters or auxiliary pockets for mice and documents. Materials range from nylon, polyester, and canvas to leather, with water-repellent treatments on many modern bags.

Sizes of laptopvaks are aligned with common laptop screen sizes, usually listed in inches (for example 13, 15, or 17 inches). Some compartments are adjustable or come with removable inserts to fit a wider range of widths. It is common for a laptopvak to be part of a backpack, messenger bag, briefcase, or travel luggage, and to be marketed as a protective feature for daily commuting or travel.

Care and limitations: while the vak provides protection from bumps and dust, it does not guarantee full water resistance unless the bag is specifically marketed as waterproof. Users should avoid placing heavy objects on top of a laptop stored in a vak to prevent pressure damage.
