Lapavyö, or lap belt, refers to a two-point safety belt that encircles the wearer's hips and fastens at the front. It is designed to restrain the pelvis and legs to limit forward movement while seated. Unlike a three-point seat belt, the lap belt does not restrain the upper body or shoulders, and it distributes crash forces primarily to the hips and abdomen.

Lap belts have historically been used in various settings, including older automobiles, aircraft seats, buses, and some industrial or amusement ride restraints. In modern passenger vehicles, lap belts are increasingly uncommon, having been largely replaced by three-point seat belts that spread loads over the chest and pelvis and reduce the risk of submarining, where the occupant slides under the belt.

Safety considerations are central to the use of lap belts. If not positioned correctly—riding up on the abdomen or sitting too high—they can increase the risk of internal injuries or abdominal damage in a crash. They also provide limited protection for the upper body. For children and smaller occupants, lap belts alone are generally considered inadequate; appropriate child restraints or booster seats with proper harnessing or three-point belts are recommended. In many countries, including those in the European Union, three-point belts are the standard in new passenger cars, while lap belts may be found only in specific seats, historical contexts, or certain non-automotive applications.
