Laepidae is a family of small to medium-sized cetaceans commonly known as oceanic dolphins. They are characterized by their slender bodies, short beaks, and prominent foreheads. Laepidae is the smallest family of toothed cetaceans and consists of four genera, with a total of six species.

Laepidae are found in temperate to tropical waters around the world, including the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans. They are known to inhabit shallow, coastal waters, as well as deeper offshore areas. These dolphins are often associated with schools of baitfish and feed on small fish and squid.

Biological surveys indicate that Laepidae populations are declining in some regions due to injuries and death caused by human activities such as ship strikes, bycatch, and entanglement in fishing nets. Conservation efforts are necessary to protect these cetaceans and their habitats.
