Laadplatform refers to a digital and often multi-tenant system that manages and coordinates electric vehicle charging services and, in some cases, related energy management functions. It serves as the central software layer for connecting charging stations, payment and user authentication, roaming between networks, and when applicable, energy services such as smart charging and grid balancing. The platform is typically operated by a charge point operator (CPO), an energy provider, or a dedicated platform provider, and it may be offered as software as a service (SaaS) to other actors in the ecosystem.

Key components of a laadplatform include the hardware layer (charging points and hardware interfaces), a software stack for station management, user applications, and back-end services for billing, access control, and data analytics. Interoperability is a central concern, achieved through industry standards and protocols such as Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) for station management and Open Charge Point Interface (OCPI) for roaming and cross-network access. ISO 15118 and related standards address advanced features like plug-and-charge and vehicle-to-grid interactions.

Typical features encompass user authentication and payments, pricing and tariff management, station discovery and reservations, remote monitoring and maintenance, load balancing and smart charging, and detailed reporting. The laadplatform ecosystem involves various stakeholders, including EV drivers, CPOs, network operators, municipalities, utility companies, and aggregators, all aiming to improve accessibility, efficiency, and integration with renewable energy.

Common challenges include ensuring security and data privacy, achieving broad interoperability, handling peak demand, and managing the complexities of roaming and tariff settlement across networks.
