Kruiselings is a Dutch term used in horticulture and agriculture to describe the deliberate crossbreeding of two distinct plant varieties, lines, or species to produce offspring with a new combination of traits. It covers conventional breeding as well as the creation of new varieties through controlled pollination.

The process involves selecting parent plants with desirable characteristics, preventing unintended pollen transfer, and transferring pollen from a male parent to a female parent. After fertilization, the resulting seeds are grown and evaluated for traits such as yield, flavor, color, disease resistance, and environmental tolerance. Breeders may perform multiple cross combinations and test many offspring to identify promising lines.

Kruiselings often aim to capitalize on advantages like hybrid vigor, where F1 offspring exhibit improved performance relative to their parents. Depending on the breeding program, successful crosses may be propagated to produce true-breeding lines or commercial varieties through stabilization over successive generations.
