Kosárkészítés is the Hungarian term for basket weaving. It is an ancient craft that involves interlacing flexible materials to create a variety of containers. The primary materials used in traditional Hungarian kosárkészítés include willow branches (fűzfavessző), reeds (nád), and straw (szalma). The selection of material often depends on the intended use of the basket and regional availability. Willow is known for its flexibility and strength, making it ideal for sturdy baskets, while reeds and straw are lighter and often used for more decorative or specialized items.

The process typically begins with preparing the materials. Branches are often soaked to make them pliable. Then, they are woven around a base, either by coiling or by using stakes that are split and spread apart. The weaver then interlaced the flexible material in various patterns, such as twining, plaiting, or winding, to create the sides and rim of the basket.
