keraamilised

Keraamilised is an Estonian adjective meaning ceramic or ceramic-coated. It is used to describe materials, surfaces, or assemblies that have been treated to acquire ceramic-like properties, such as high hardness, wear resistance, and thermal stability, or to indicate that a component is made from ceramic material itself.

Production methods vary. Coating metals with ceramic layers can be done by slurry glazing, chemical vapor deposition, or plasma spraying. Another approach is shaping and firing ceramic powders or glass-ceramic composites to form solid ceramic parts. In many designs, a ceramic coating is applied to a metal substrate to improve performance while retaining some metal toughness.

Ceramics are typically hard and wear resistant, chemically inert, and able to withstand high temperatures, but are often brittle and can have challenging thermal expansion characteristics. The term keraamilised encompasses both fully ceramic components and ceramic-coated parts, reflecting a range of material states from coated metals to monolithic ceramics.

Common applications include protective coatings on cutting tools and turbine components; cookware with a ceramic glaze; dental crowns and veneers made from ceramic materials; electronic and optical components; and industrial valves and seals. In Estonian-language technical literature, keraamilised is used across engineering, materials science, and manufacturing to describe either ceramic materials or ceramic-coated surfaces.
