Kataklar is the Malay and Indonesian plural form of katak, meaning frogs. In everyday usage, kataklar refers to frogs collectively, encompassing a large and diverse group of amphibians within the order Anura. There are thousands of described species, ranging from tiny tree frogs to larger ground-dwelling species, with a wide variety of colors, patterns, and ecological adaptations.

Frogs are characterized by their smooth, moist skin, long hind legs adapted for jumping, and, in many species, vocal sacs used by males to produce calls. Adults typically have a short body and large eyes, while young life stages begin as eggs laid in water. Frogs belong to the superorder Lissamphibia and include several families, such as Ranidae and Hylidae, among others. Their anatomy and physiology are adapted to a semi-aquatic lifestyle, with life cycles that commonly involve an aquatic larval stage (tadpoles) and a terrestrial or semi-aquatic adult stage.

Habitat and distribution: kataklar occupy a wide range of environments, including freshwater ponds and streams, wetlands, rainforests, grasslands, deserts near oases, and urban water bodies. They are globally distributed, found on most continents except Antarctica, and exhibit varied breeding strategies, often linked to water availability.

Ecology and behavior: frogs are primarily insectivorous, feeding on a variety of invertebrates and occasionally small vertebrates. Their calls play a key role in mating and territory establishment. Predators include birds, snakes, mammals, and larger amphibians.
