Changes in capillaries can occur due to various physiological and pathological conditions.

In diabetic retinopathy, elevated blood glucose levels can damage the delicate capillary walls in the retina, leading to leakage, bleeding, and the formation of new, abnormal blood vessels. Autoimmune diseases like lupus can trigger an immune response that targets capillary walls, leading to inflammation and damage.

Age-related changes also play a role. As people age, capillaries can become less efficient, leading to reduced blood flow and impaired nutrient delivery to tissues. This can contribute to various age-related conditions.

Symptoms associated with kapillarveränderungen are diverse and depend on the location and severity of the changes. They can include visible changes in the skin, such as telangiectasias (spider veins) or purpura (bruising). In internal organs, symptoms might be related to the impaired function of that organ. Diagnosis often involves imaging techniques, biopsies, and clinical assessment. Treatment focuses on addressing the underlying cause, such as managing blood sugar in diabetes or controlling blood pressure in hypertension, to prevent further capillary damage and preserve organ function.
