Kandidaadiga is the Somali term for a person who seeks election to a public office or appointment to a position that requires selection through a competitive process. A candidate may be affiliated with a political party or stand as an independent. In modern elections, kandidaadiga present policy platforms, credentials, and qualifications to voters, participate in debates, and conduct campaigns to gain support.

Nomination and eligibility: Eligibility criteria differ by jurisdiction but commonly include age, citizenship, residency, and not being disqualified by law. Kandidaadiga are typically nominated by a political party or submit a petition, declaration, or registration with the electoral commission. They may need to meet deadlines, pay filing fees, and provide disclosures about finances, background, and endorsements.
