In Finnish, jarrupalat refers to brake pads, the friction components of disc brake systems. The genitive form jarrupalojen is used in phrases such as jarrupalojen kuluminen (fatigue or wear of brake pads). Brake pads are mounted on a backing plate and press against brake discs (rotors) when the brakes are applied, converting kinetic energy into heat to slow or stop a vehicle.
