Inkjet printheads are a core component of inkjet printers, responsible for applying ink to the printing medium, typically paper. They contain an array of microscopic nozzles, through which ink droplets are propelled to form images and text. The precise control over these droplets is what enables the high resolution and detail characteristic of inkjet printing.

There are two primary technologies used in inkjet printheads: thermal inkjet and piezoelectric inkjet. Thermal inkjet printheads utilize a heating element to rapidly vaporize a tiny amount of ink, creating a bubble. The expansion of this bubble forces a droplet of ink out of the nozzle. This method is common in consumer-grade printers due to its relatively low cost and simplicity.

Piezoelectric inkjet printheads, on the other hand, use a piezoelectric crystal that changes shape when an electric voltage is applied. This mechanical deformation creates a pressure wave that ejects an ink droplet from the nozzle. This technology offers greater control over droplet size and speed, making it suitable for high-performance and industrial printing applications.

The quality and longevity of an inkjet printhead are crucial for print output. Over time, nozzles can become clogged due to dried ink, or the printhead itself can degrade, leading to print defects such as lines, missing colors, or faded images. Regular maintenance and proper handling are important to ensure optimal performance.
